Launch of In-Browser Version, and Alpha 1.2 Release

It all started with these games:

https://gvaliente.itch.io/varooom-3d

When I saw that these original GBA games were fully playable in an itch.io browser winder, I knew I wanted to figure out how to replicate their success. So I pestered their developers, and they were nice enough to share their secrets.

It turns out that the Goodboy Advance developers created a custom html template that implements gba.ninja, an html port of the vba emulator. The websites for these open-source projects are as follows:

https://gba.ninja/

https://vba-m.com

Of course, I find it fun to put my own flair on things, so I used a shutterstuck image of a purple gba to create my very own in-browser template. The source code is here:
(paste in the source code when I put it on github)

The github link has instructions for how to do this yourself.

Keep in mind that certain aspects of the game's performance, such as framerate and audio quality, are likely to suffer when played in-browser. (Knight Owls certainly sounds worse in-browser than downloaded and run in mgba.)

For some reason, adding this game to itch.io seems to have removed my screenshots. Oh well!

In addition to the creation of this in-browser version, the following changes were made for this alpha 1.2 release:

  • Lowered audio volume and adjusted its mixrate
  • Fixed a typo
  • When you lose, the game boots you back to the main menu no matter what your choice is. (hopefully this will help communicate that the player has lost, and encourage them to read the instructions)
